أشكو إلى اللَّهِ دمعاً حائراً أبداً

أشكو إلى اللَّهِ دمعاً حائراً أبداً

لا يستقِلّ ولا يَجْرِي فينْحَدِرُ

لا يستقِلّ ولا يَجْرِي فينْحَدِرُ

I complain to God of tears forever wavering;

I complain to God of a wandering tear,

They neither rise nor flow down.

It settles not, nor flows so I can shed it.

الخوفُ ينهاهُ والأشْجَانُ تأمُرُهُ

الخوفُ ينهاهُ والأشْجَانُ تأمُرُهُ

فَقَدْ تكافَأَ فيه الخوفُ والحَذَرُ

فَقَدْ تكافَأَ فيه الخوفُ والحَذَرُ

Fear holds them back, and sorrows urge them on;

Fear restrains it, and anguish commands it,

For fear and caution are evenly matched within them.

So in it fear and caution are equal.
