بَلَغَتْهُit reached him الكَأسُthe cup فَارْتَعَدَتْso it trembled
بَلَغَتْهُ الكَأسُ فَارْتَعَدَتْ
طَرَبَاًin rapture مِنْهَاfrom it إِلَىtoward فَمِهِhis mouth
طَرَبَاً مِنْهَا إِلَى فَمِهِ
The cup reached him and trembled,
The cup reached him, causing tremors
In its own rapture as it neared his mouth.
From it to his mouth,
مَنَعَتْهُit prevented him أَنْto يُؤَخِّرَهَاdelay it
مَنَعَتْهُ أَنْ يُؤَخِّرَهَا
فِيin يَدَيْهِhis two hands مِنْbecause of تَحَشُّمِهِhis bashfulness
فِي يَدَيْهِ مِنْ تَحَشُّمِهِ
It kept him from delaying it
It prevented him from delaying it
In his hands out of bashfulness.
In his hands from his bashfulness,
فَتَحَاشَاهَاso he avoided it وَأَعْقَبَهَاand he left it with
فَتَحَاشَاهَا وَأَعْقَبَهَا
أَرَجَاًa fragrance مِنْfrom طِيْبٍsweetness مَبْسِمِهِhis smiling lips
أَرَجَاً مِنْ طِيْبٍ مَبْسِمِهِ
So he avoided it and left it with
So he turned it away and followed it
A fragrance from the sweetness of his smiling lips.
With fragrant breath from his smile.
