وَجْهِ غَزَالٍ مُونَقِ
I kept being given it to drink, gazing upon
I still water it over the face
the face of a lovely gazelle,
Of a delicate gazelle,

بِخَاتَمٍ مُنْتَطِقِ
veiled with a moon,
With a polished moon,
girdled with a ring;
A ring that speaks,
وَالْبَدْرُand the full moon فَوْقَabove دِجْلَةٍthe Tigris
وَالْبَدْرُ فَوْقَ دِجْلَةٍ

وَالصُّبْحُ لَمَّا يُشْرِقِ
and the full moon above the Tigris,
The full moon over the Tigris,
while dawn had not yet broken,
The dawn when it shines,

Eyeliner of gold
upon a blue carpet.
Over a blue rug.
