مِنْfrom آلِthe house of إِسْرَائِيلَIsrael عُلِّقْتُهُI fell in love with him
مِنْ آلِ إِسْرَائِيلَ عُلِّقْتُهُ
عَذَّبَنِيhe tormented me بِالصَّدِّwith rejection وَالتِّيْهِand haughtiness
عَذَّبَنِي بِالصَّدِّ وَالتِّيْهِ
I fell in love with one of the house of Israel.
From the house of Israel he was hung,
He tormented me with rejection and haughtiness.
He tortured me with estrangement and confusion,
تَنَزَّلَdescended السَّلْوَىsolace (a pun on quails) عَلىupon قَلْبِهِhis heart
تَنَزَّلَ السَّلْوَى عَلى قَلْبِهِ
وَأٌنْزِلَand was sent down المَنُّmanna عَلىupon فِيهِhis mouth
وَأٌنْزِلَ المَنُّ عَلى فِيهِ
Solace descended upon his heart,
Consolation descended on his heart,
And manna was sent down upon his mouth.
And I rained manna on his mouth.
