كَمْhow many لَيْلَةٍa night بِتُّI spent the night لاnot ضَوءَlight الصَّباحِthe dawn أَرىI see
وَلاand not الخَيالَthe dream-vision وَلاand not نَوْمِيmy sleep عَلَيَّupon me بَقِيremained
How many a night I spent, seeing no light of dawn,
Nor the dream-vision, nor did my sleep remain with me.
وَلَيلَةُand the night الوَصْلِof union لَمَّاwhen أَنْthat ظَفِرْتُI attained بِهاwith it
لاحَappeared الصَّباحُthe dawn وَقُرصُand the disk الشَّمْسِof the sun فِيin الأُفُقِthe horizon
And on the night of union, when I attained it,
Dawn appeared, and the sun's disk was on the horizon.
