Let the eye take from you what the heart desires.
For the day of parting has come, and the caravan has set out.
وَقالُواand they said صَباhe fell in love وَاسْتَحْسَنَand found beautiful العِشْقَpassionate love جاهِلاًin ignorance

And they said, "He fell in love and, in ignorance, found love beautiful."
And who could see what I have seen and not fall in love?
ومَاand no لِيَfor me ذَنْبٌsin غَيْرَexcept أَنِّيthat I أَحِبُّهُlove him

And I have no sin except that I love him.
And that is a sin whose abandonment is a sin in love.
وَدَارِيَand my home مِنْfrom دَارِthe home الحَبِيبِof the beloved قَرِيبَةٌnear

And my home is near the beloved's home.
Yet no messengers pass between us, nor letters.

I call to him from this side of the veil, addressing him:
So what harm would it do if the veils between us were lifted?
