سَالَflowed عَلىover وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek عارِضٌa fringe of beard
سَالَ عَلى وَجْنَتِهِ عارِضٌ
كَالعَرَضِlike an accident (attribute) القَائِمِinhering بِالجَوْهَرِin the substance
كَالعَرَضِ القَائِمِ بِالجَوْهَرِ
A fringe of beard flowed over his cheek,
Like an accident inhering in the substance.
يَاO شَعْرُhair لاَdo not تَكْذِبْlie عَلىabout خَدِّهِhis cheek
يَا شَعْرُ لاَ تَكْذِبْ عَلى خَدِّهِ
مَاnot ذاكَthat إِلاَّexcept زَرَدُchain-mail links المِغْفَرِthe mail coif
مَا ذاكَ إِلاَّ زَرَدُ المِغْفَرِ
O hair, do not lie about his cheek:
That is nothing but the mail coif’s links.
