ظَبْيٌa gazelle يُخالُis thought البَرْقُlightning مِنfrom بَرِيقِهِhis radiance
غَنِيْتُI had no need عَنْof إبْرِيقِهِhis ewer بِريقِهِwith his saliva
A gazelle—lightning is thought to come from his radiance.
A deer whose lightning flashes from its cup
With his saliva, I had no need of his ewer.
I have no need for its cup, just its light
وَلَمْand did not أَزَلْcease أَشْرَبُI drink مِنْfrom رَحيقِهِhis nectar
حَتَّىuntil سَقَيْتُI gave a drink القَلْبَthe heart مِنfrom حَريقِهِhis fire
And I kept drinking of his nectar,
I continue drinking its nectar
Until I made my heart drink of his fire.
Until I quenched my heart from its flame
