Let him come to a lioness whetting her swords
between al-Madhad and the bend of the Trench.
Between al-Mudhad and the cleft of the trench.

Seasoned in striking marked warriors, they surrendered
They were blinded by the striking of the Believers and so submitted
their very lifeblood to the Lord of the East.
Themselves sincerely to the Lord of the East.

In a band that aided the marked warriors, they surrendered
In a party that gave victory to the Believers and so surrendered
their very lifeblood to the Lord of the East.
Themselves sincerely to the Lord of the East.

In every long robe whose extra length it trails
like a rippling pool over which the wind has blown;
Like an announcement, its wind blew gently.

bright and firmly wrought, as though its rivets were
White, solid, as if its coarse wool
clusters of locusts, its links securely fastened.
Was made by the skill of ostriches, of reliable knots.

Closely woven, pressed by the baldric of an Indian blade,
A debate aroused by an insistent organizer
of pure steel, keen-edged and gleaming.
With a clear, keen, and elegant blade.
تلكُمْthat (addressing you all) مَعَwith التّقْوىpiety تكونُwill be لِبَاسَنَاour clothing

يومَ الهِيَاجِ وكلَّ سَاعَةِ مصدقِ
That armor, together with piety, will be our clothing
Such, with piety, is our attire
on the day of battle and at every hour of earnest combat.
On the day of alarm and each moment of truth.

قُدُماً ونُلحِقُها إذا لَمْ تَلْحَقِ
We extend our swords, when we fall short, with our strides
We sharpen the swords if we fall short in our steps,
forward, and make them reach when they fail to reach.
And join them if they do not reach.

Nothing has befallen the enemies like meeting us
The enemies have not met the like of our meeting
on the day of victory, and on our day at the Trench.
On the day of success as we stood at the trench.

Then you see the skulls, their crowns exposed,
You see the skulls shining, their foreheads
let alone the hands, as though they had never been created.
Smeared with palms as if created for wringing necks.

تَنْفِي الجموعَ كَقَصْدِ رَأْسِ المَشْرِقِ
We meet the enemy with a mighty, closely massed force,
We meet the enemy with a terrible glory
scattering the hosts like shattering the head of the East.
That drives away the hordes like aiming at the horizon.

And against the enemies we ready every long-legged steed,
And we prepare for the enemies every weakened

Stallion, hobbled, fettered.

You cast down horsemen who, when enraged,
amid battle's tumult, lions of sodden Tall.
Are like black camels, massive.

True in valor, they deal armored champions their deaths
Trustworthy, they hold the reins of their camels
beneath the blinding turmoil, with life-taking spears.
Beneath the turban cloth, twisted and tearing.

so that they may vex the enemy and serve as a safeguard
To be a fury to the foe and a protection
for the homeland, if the reckless men's horses advance.
For the abode, if the horses of calamity stampede.

And God, the Almighty, will aid us with a strength
from Him, and true endurance at the hour we meet.
From Him and the sincerity of patience when we meet.

And we obey the command of our Prophet and respond to him
and when he calls to hard battle, we are never outstripped.
And when he calls to an expedition we do not hesitate.

And whenever he calls to hardships, we come to them;
And whenever he summons us to adversities, we come to them,
and whenever we see the thick of battle, we hasten into it.
And whenever he sees fervor in them, we become enflamed.

Whoever follows the word of the Prophet, truly He
is obeyed among us in his commands, true and trusted.
Is obeyed among us in command, truly proven trustworthy.

Through that He grants us victory and manifests our might
and grants us benefit from attaining that.
And causes us to attain the fruits of that successfully.

Indeed, those who call Muhammad a liar
Indeed, those who deny Muhammad
have disbelieved and strayed from the path of the God-fearing.
Have strayed and lost the path of the righteous.
