أَقَمْنَا عَلَى المَرْسِ البَرِيعِ لَيَالِياً

بأَرْعَنَ جَزَّارٍ عَرِيضِ المبَاركِ

We stayed at lofty al-Mars for nights,

We spent nights at the fertile meadow,

with a vast, slaughtering host, its encampments broad.

At Aran's pastures, broad and blessed,

فَلَمْ نَلْقَ في تَطْوافِنَا والتِمَاسِنَا

فَلَمْ نَلْقَ في تَطْوافِنَا والتِمَاسِنَا

فُراتَ بنَ حيَّانٍ يَكُنْ رَهْنَ هَالِكِ

فُراتَ بنَ حيَّانٍ يَكُنْ رَهْنَ هَالِكِ

But in our roaming and our search we did not encounter

Yet in all our roaming and searching

Furāt son of Ḥayyān—he would have been held as a pledge for one slain.

We did not find Furat ibn Hayyan, who lies ruined.
