لقدindeed علمَknew الأحْزَابُthe confederates حِينَwhen تألّبُواthey banded together
لقد علمَ الأحْزَابُ حِينَ تألّبُوا
عَلَيْنَاagainst us وَرَامُواand targeted دِينَنَاour faith ماnot نُوادِعُwe make a truce
عَلَيْنَا وَرَامُوا دِينَنَا ما نُوادِعُ
The confederates knew well, when they banded together
The factions knew when they turned against us
against us and targeted our faith, that we would make no truce.
And sought to destroy our faith, we would not waver,
أَضَامِيمُbands مِنْfrom قيسِQays بنِson of عيلانَʿAylān أَصْفَقَتْjoined forces
أَضَامِيمُ مِنْ قيسِ بنِ عيلانَ أَصْفَقَتْ
وخِندِفَand Khindif لمnot يَدْرُواthey knew بماof what هُوَit وَاقِعُwould happen
وخِندِفَ لم يَدْرُوا بما هُوَ وَاقِعُ
Bands from Qays ibn ʿAylān joined forces,
The resolute tribes of Qais ibn ‘Ailan were shocked
and from Khindif; they did not know what would befall.
And Khandaf was bewildered, unaware of what was to come,
يَذُودُونَنَاthey drive us away عَنْfrom دِينِنَاour faith وَنَذُودُهُمْand we drive them away
يَذُودُونَنَا عَنْ دِينِنَا وَنَذُودُهُمْ
عَنِfrom الكُفْرِunbelief والرّحْمنُand the All-Merciful رَاءٍseeing وسَامِعُand hearing
عَنِ الكُفْرِ والرّحْمنُ رَاءٍ وسَامِعُ
They drive us away from our faith, and we drive them
They try to deter us from our religion and we deter them
away from unbelief; and the All-Merciful sees and hears.
From disbelief, and the Merciful Lord is watching and hearing,
إِذَاwhenever غَايَظُونَاthey provoke us فيin مُقَامٍan encounter أَعَانَنَاhelps us
إِذَا غَايَظُونَا في مُقَامٍ أَعَانَنَا
علىin غَيْظهِمْangering them نَصْرٌaid منfrom اللهِGod واسِعُample
على غَيْظهِمْ نَصْرٌ من اللهِ واسِعُ
Whenever they provoke us in an encounter, we are aided
When they provoke us in a place, God aids us
in angering them by ample aid from God.
Against their provocation with ample victory,
وذَلِكَand that حِفظُprotection اللهِGod's فِينَاamong us وفَضْلُهُand His favor
وذَلِكَ حِفظُ اللهِ فِينَا وفَضْلُهُ
عَلَيْنَاupon us وَمَنْand whoever لمnot يَحْفَظِprotects اللهُGod ضَائِعُlost
عَلَيْنَا وَمَنْ لم يَحْفَظِ اللهُ ضَائِعُ
And that is God's protection of us and His favor
Such is God’s protection of us and His grace upon us
upon us; whoever God does not protect is lost.
While one whom God does not protect is lost,
هَدَاناHe guided us لِدِينِto the religion of الحقِّthe truth واختَارَهُand chose it لَنَاfor us
هَدَانا لِدِينِ الحقِّ واختَارَهُ لَنَا
وللهِand God has فوقَabove الصّانِعينَthe benefactors صَنَائعُfavors
وللهِ فوقَ الصّانِعينَ صَنَائعُ
He guided us to the religion of truth and chose it for us,
He guided us to the religion of truth and chose it for us
and God's favors surpass those of all benefactors.
And above all makers is God with great creations.
