فَكَفَّso he held back يَدَيهِhis two hands ثُمَّthen أغْلَقَhe shut بَابَهُhis door
فَكَفَّ يَدَيهِ ثُمَّ أغْلَقَ بَابَهُ
وَأَيْقَنَand he knew with certainty أنَّthat اللهَGod لَيْسَis not بِغَافِلِheedless
وَأَيْقَنَ أنَّ اللهَ لَيْسَ بِغَافِلِ
So he held back his hands, then shut his door,
He folded his hands, then closed his door
and knew with certainty that God is not heedless.
And was certain that God is not unmindful
وَقَالَand he said لِمَنْto those who فيin دارهِhis house لاdo not تُقاتِلُواfight (you all)
وَقَالَ لِمَنْ في دارهِ لا تُقاتِلُوا
عَفَاmay He pardon اللهُGod عَنْfor كُلِّevery امرىءٍman لمdid not يُقَاتِلِfight
عَفَا اللهُ عَنْ كُلِّ امرىءٍ لم يُقَاتِلِ
And he said to those in his house: Do not fight.
And said to those in his house, do not fight
May God pardon every man who did not fight.
God has forgiven every person who did not fight
فَكَيْفَhow, then رأيتَyou saw اللهَGod صَبَّpoured عليهمُupon them الْthe
فَكَيْفَ رأيتَ اللهَ صَبَّ عليهمُ الْ
عَدَاوَةَenmity والبَقْضَاءَand hatred بَعْدَafter التّوَاصُلِfellowship
عَدَاوَةَ والبَقْضَاءَ بَعْدَ التّوَاصُلِ
How, then, did you see God pour upon them
So how did you see God pour upon them
enmity and hatred after fellowship?
Hostility and animosity after friendship
وكيفَand how رَأيتَyou saw الخيرَgoodness أَدْبَرَturned away عَنْهُمُfrom them
وكيفَ رَأيتَ الخيرَ أَدْبَرَ عَنْهُمُ
وَوَلَّىand fled كإِدْبَارِlike the flight of النَّعامِthe ostriches الجوافلِfleeing in fright
وَوَلَّى كإِدْبَارِ النَّعامِ الجوافلِ
And how did you see goodness turn away from them
And how did you see good turn away from them
and flee as startled ostriches flee?
And depart like the fleeing of ostriches
