O men, come to my aid over a matter that has stirred sorrow in me!
O men, for a grievous matter I am saddened
I have indeed marveled at those who weep over the traces of deserted camps.
I wonder at him who weeps over worldly wealth

Indeed, I saw the man slain in the house, oppressed—
I saw the slain master of the house persecuted
Uthman, being borne to the graves in a shroud.
Uthman carried to graves in a shroud

Oh, may God strike down a people whose undertaking was
O may God destroy a people whose act
the killing of the pure imam, fragrant of sleeve.
Was killing the virtuous, good, gentle Imam

They did not fight him for any sin he had committed,
They did not kill him for a sin he committed
save what they falsely alleged, which never occurred.
But for lies they told though no wrong he had done
قَدْindeed قَتَلْوهُthey killed him وأَصْحابَand the companions النّبيِّof the Prophet مَعاًtogether

They have killed him and the Prophet's companions together.
They killed him and the Prophet's companions too
Were it not for what they did, we would not have been afflicted by strife.
Had they not done what they did, we'd not experienced these trials

They killed him pure, free of blemishes.
They killed him pure, no blemish in him
May God bless his beautiful face.
God bless the face of such beauty

He had combined forbearance and piety as a safeguard,
He combined wisdom, piety and protection
with the caliphate—a charge he had not dishonored.
With leadership - a feat none had achieved

This man held a view concerning his kin;
Such was his view due to his kinship
he gained nothing from this world and was not faithless.
He sought nothing of this world nor betrayed
