At the time when Ayman’s mother said to him:

“You were cowardly and did not face the horsemen of Khaybar.”

Yet Ayman was not cowardly; rather, his colt

had been harmed by drinking fermented gruel.

And had it not been for what had happened to his colt,

he would have fought among them as a deft horseman.

But the trouble with his colt had held him back,

and but for that, he would not have fallen short.
