The rabbis have indeed been disgraced by their treachery.

Such is time: it turns with its vicissitudes.

And that is because they disbelieved in a Lord

mighty, whose command is a great command.

Thus, although they had been given understanding and knowledge together,

and the warner had come to them from God:

a truthful warner who delivered a scripture

and clearly expounded verses that give light.

They said, "You have brought no truthful message,

and you deserve reproach from us."

    يُصَدّقُني بهِ الفَهِمُ الخبيرُ

    He said, "Yes, I have indeed conveyed truth;

the discerning, well-informed person believes me concerning it."

So whoever follows him will be guided to every right course,

and whoever disbelieves in him—that unbeliever will be requited.

So when they were steeped in treachery and unbelief,

and aversion led them away from the truth,

God granted the Prophet a true insight,

    and God judged, never overstepping.

So He strengthened him and advanced him against them,

and his helper was an excellent helper.

So Ka'b among them was left slain,

and after his fall al-Nadir were humbled,

there upon both palms, after he had been struck by

drawn blades of hard steel in our hands,

at Muhammad's command, when by night he secretly sent

Ka'b's brother, making his way toward Ka'b.

So he deceived him and brought him down by a ruse,

and Mahmud was trustworthy and bold.

    أَبَارَهُمُ بِمَا اجتَرَمُوا المُبيرُ

    Such were Banu al-Nadir, in an abode of misery;

the destroyer laid them waste for what they had perpetrated,

on the morning he came to them, advancing at a measured pace—

the Messenger of God, who knew them well.

And Ghassan, the fighting edge, supported him

against the enemies, while he was their helper.

He said, "Peace—woe to you!" But they turned away,

and lying and falsehood allied themselves with their cause.

So they tasted ruin in the aftermath of their affair:

one camel for every three of them.

And they were expelled, heading for Qaynuqa',

and their palm trees and houses were left behind.
