Indeed, dignity still rests in a key

in the door of a house of ours in Sheikh Jarrah.

For if our neighborhood is emptied of our living people, and

Arab Jerusalem becomes, bereft of us, a house of ghosts,

then, in a tomorrow after us, no one will bring it back

    from a scoundrel's hand, nor from a barker's fang.

A door where we seek refuge still protects us,

and it will not remain ours without a key.
