أَبَاO father of عَلِيٍّAli" تَمَهَّلْwait ! كَيْفَhow تَتْرُكُناyou leave us
أَبَا عَلِيٍّ" تَمَهَّلْ ! كَيْفَ تَتْرُكُنا
ونَحْنُand we فيin أَحْوَجِmost in need الأَوْقاتِthe times لِلرَّشَدِfor guidance ؟!
ونَحْنُ في أَحْوَجِ الأَوْقاتِ لِلرَّشَدِ ؟!
Abu Ali, wait! How can you leave us
"Abu Ali" wait! How can you leave us
in times when we are most in need of guidance?
When we most need guidance?!
وأَنْتَand you فيناamong us سَديدُsound الرَّأْيِjudgment إِنْif سَأَلُواthey asked
وأَنْتَ فينا سَديدُ الرَّأْيِ إِنْ سَأَلُوا
فيin لَيْلَةِthe night of الضِّيقِdistress والضَّرَّاءِand adversity عَنْfor مَدَدِaid
في لَيْلَةِ الضِّيقِ والضَّرَّاءِ عَنْ مَدَدِ
And among us, your judgment was sound whenever they asked
You were always sound of judgment if asked
for aid in the night of distress and adversity.
In times of distress and tribulation for help
كَمْhow often كُنْتَyou were ذَاpossessed of نَخْوَةٍnoble spirit فيin كُلِّevery مَسْأَلَةٍmatter
كَمْ كُنْتَ ذَا نَخْوَةٍ في كُلِّ مَسْأَلَةٍ
لِلنَّاسِfor the people فيin مَوْقِفِa situation of الإِشْكالِdifficulty فيin البَلَدِthe town !
لِلنَّاسِ في مَوْقِفِ الإِشْكالِ في البَلَدِ !
How often you showed noble spirit in every matter
How valiant you were in every issue
for people facing difficulties in the town!
For people in times of problems in the country!
تَبْكيكَweeps for you "قاناQana" ويَبْكيكَand weep for you الكِرامُthe noble people بِهاin it
تَبْكيكَ "قانا" ويَبْكيكَ الكِرامُ بِها
فَطالَماfor so often كُنْتَyou were فِيهِمْamong them صادِقَfaithful السَّنَدِsupport
فَطالَما كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ صادِقَ السَّنَدِ
Qana weeps for you, and the noble people there weep for you,
"Qana" weeps for you, as do the generous ones
for so often you were their faithful support.
For you were always truthful in your support
يَبْكيكَweeps for you قَلْبيmy heart إِلىto عَيْنيmy eye،فَكَمْfor how often فَرِحَاboth rejoiced
يَبْكيكَ قَلْبي إِلى عَيْني،فَكَمْ فَرِحَا
بِأُنْسِكَin your companionship العَذْبِsweet فيin عَهْدِthe days of الصِّبَاyouth الغَرِدِsong-filled !
بِأُنْسِكَ العَذْبِ في عَهْدِ الصِّبَا الغَرِدِ !
My heart weeps for you, its grief reaching my eye—how often both rejoiced
My heart weeps for you to my eyes, so much joy
in your sweet company in the days of song-filled youth!
Did I find in your sweet company in the days of carefree youth!
إِلَيْكَto you مِنِّيfrom me دُعاءٌa prayer بِالسَّلامِfor peace عَلَىupon
إِلَيْكَ مِنِّي دُعاءٌ بِالسَّلامِ عَلَى
ذِكْراكَyour memory مَخْضوبَةًdyed بِالطِّيْبِwith fragrance لِلْأَبدِforever!
ذِكْراكَ مَخْضوبَةً بِالطِّيْبِ لِلْأَبدِ!
To you, from me, a prayer for peace upon
To you my prayers for peace
your memory, dyed with fragrance forever!
Upon the memory of you perfumed forever!
ياO صاحِبَpossessor of الوُدِّaffection لاnot أنْسَىI forget مَودَّتَناour affection
يا صاحِبَ الوُدِّ لا أنْسَى مَودَّتَنا
وسَوْفَand will تَبْقَىremain عَزاءَthe solace of الرُّوحِthe soul والجَسَدِand the body
وسَوْفَ تَبْقَى عَزاءَ الرُّوحِ والجَسَدِ
O loving friend, I shall not forget our affection,
O bosom friend I do not forget our affection
and it will remain the solace of soul and body.
It will remain the comfort of my soul and body
جَزاكَmay He reward you رَبُّthe Lord of السَّماheaven عَنْfor كُلِّevery مَكْرُمَةٍnoble quality
جَزاكَ رَبُّ السَّما عَنْ كُلِّ مَكْرُمَةٍ
مِنْof صالِحِgood الخُلْقِcharacter والأَعْمالِand deeds والوَلَدِand offspring !
مِنْ صالِحِ الخُلْقِ والأَعْمالِ والوَلَدِ !
May the Lord of heaven reward you for every noble quality
May the Lord of the heavens reward you
in your good character, deeds, and offspring!
For every act of kindness, deeds and children!
