You removed a mask and lit up the night

With the beads of pearl you revealed.

And your smile, which we longed for,

We saw it; it had been in our imagination.

Drawing near your lips had been forbidden,

So today it has come to be deemed lawful.

And this mouth—how many tales it has hidden!

So bring forth what you hid throughout the nights.

And repay the lovers the debt for what

You promised of union but never fulfilled!

    In both states—concealment and unveiling—

For your face, beauty's pinnacle rises.

And had He willed perfection for a creature's face,

God would have singled out your face for perfection!
