قَدalready وَزوَزانِيَthe two of them manhandled me مُشتَدّاًdrawn taut رِقابُهُماthe necks of them both
إِنّيindeed I لَأَدنىsurely close to ماwhat تَكيدانِyou two plot
They have manhandled me, their necks drawn taut.
Their necks have struck me fiercely, stringent;
Easy! I am surely close to what you two are plotting.
Gently! I am the meekest to their plots.
قَدalready عَجَّلَhastened الدَهرُtime وَالأَقدارُand fate بُؤسُكُماwoe to you both
فَاِستَغنِياso you two do without بُؤسَwoe! إِنّيindeed I عَنكُماwithout you two غانِfree of need
Time and fate have already made haste—woe to you both!
Fate and destiny hastened your misery;
So do without me—woe!—I have no need of you two.
So suffice with woe, for from you I am content.
وَدَلِّيانِيَand you two lower me فيinto غَبراءَa dust-grey pit مُظلِمَةٍdark
كَماas تُدَلّىis lowered دَلاةٌa bucket بَينَbetween أَشطانِropes
And lower me into a dark, dust-grey pit,
And they misguided me in a gloomy darkness,
As a bucket is lowered between ropes.
As the misguided are misled between thorns.
