There came to me, while my family was at Dhat al-Dimakh,
He came to me and my family with spears
—so no return, nor any drawing near—
No shelter or kin could be found

Ibn Luqman's reviling of a man's honor,
Curse the son of Luqman, a man's honor
a man of great forbearance, slow to anger,
Of great patience, of anger remote

aimed at a mighty chief who, when chiefs vie for eminence,
To an old camel, when the camels vie

Who hacks the humpback's spine in half

And your mother is a ruddy Zawfite,
Your mother, the red-haired Zawfiyya
fit for hauling dry grass, a cutter of firewood.
To carry grass, logs for the firewood

The lechers' digging at her vulva
The wicked ones, over her grave
is like foxes digging into an underground burrow.
Like foxes to a lair, they scrambled
