If there is no wealth with which to reward him, then surely

my praise will reach Zayd, son of Muhalhil.

For you did not overcome us by treachery, but attacked us at dawn,

the morning we met at the narrow pass, with horses.

The armored horsemen dodged the blows of his spear,

as small birds dodge a falcon's strike.

And our affection was won for you the day you met us,

and that of the house of Badr, by a battle fought without flinching.
