إِذاif ظَعَنَتdeparts عَنّاfrom us بِجادٌBijād فَلاthen may they not دَنَتdraw near
إِذا ظَعَنَت عَنّا بِجادٌ فَلا دَنَت
وَلاand may they not رَجَعَتreturn حاشاexcept مُعَيَّةَMuʿayyah وَالجَعدِand al-Jaʿd
وَلا رَجَعَت حاشا مُعَيَّةَ وَالجَعدِ
If Bijād departs from us, may they never draw near,
When the maid turns away in dismissal, neither comes near
nor return, except Muʿayyah and al-Jaʿd.
Nor returns, except Mu'ayyah and Al-Ja'd.
أُكُلُّare all بِجادٍof Bijād فاقَدَmay He cause separation اللَهُGod بَينَهُمamong them
أُكُلُّ بِجادٍ فاقَدَ اللَهُ بَينَهُم
كَحَيَّةَlike Ḥayyah يَستَهديasks to be given الطَعامَfood وَلاand does not يُهديgive gifts
كَحَيَّةَ يَستَهدي الطَعامَ وَلا يُهدي
Are all of Bijād—may God scatter them—
I hate every maid who, may God destroy relations between them,
like Ḥayyah, who asks for gifts of food but gives none?
Is like a serpent who seeks food but cannot find it.
