Who, then, will convey on my behalf to Hayyan and Asim
A message from one who has offered no sincere counsel in sending it,
وَرَهطَand the clan of اِبنِson of حَبّاسٍHabbas فَأَنّىso how غَنِمتُمُyou gained
لَكُمfor yourselves بِأَحاديثَthrough tales of الخُرافَةِfantasy أَمثاليthe likes of me
And to the clan of Ibn Habbas: how have you gained
The likes of me for yourselves through fanciful tales?
فَوَاللَهِFor, by God ماnot مِنكُمfrom among you أَبيmy father قَدindeed عَلِمتُمُyou know
وَلاnor مِنكُمُfrom among you أُمّيmy mother وَلاnor مِنكُمُfrom among you خاليmy maternal uncle
For, by God, my father is not one of you, as you well know,
Nor is my mother one of you, nor my maternal uncle.
