جَزىmay reward اللَهُGod خَيراًwith good وَالجَزاءُand recompense بِكَفِّهِin His hand
عَلىwith خَيرِthe best ماwhat يَجزيHe rewards الرِجالَmen بَغيضاBaghīḍ
May God reward with good—and recompense is in His hand—
Baghīḍ, with the best reward He grants men.
فَلَوfor if شاءَhe wished إِذwhen جِئناهُwe came to him صَدَّhe turned away فَلَمand would not يُلَمbe blamed
وَصادَفَand he found مَنأىًa distant refuge فيin البِلادِthe lands عَريضاspacious
For had he wished, when we came to him, he could have turned us away without blame,
And found a spacious refuge far away in the land.
تَدارَكتَناyou rescued us حَتّىuntil اِستَقَلَّتrose upright رِماحُناour spears
فَعِشناso we lived وَأَلقَيناand we cast إِلَيكَto you جَريضاchoking anguish
You came to our rescue until our spears stood upright,
So we lived, and laid our choking anguish before you.
فَكُنتُso I was كَذاتِlike the female possessor of العُشِّthe nest جادَتshe gave generously بِعُشِّهاwith her nest
لِأَفراخِهاto her chicks حَتّىuntil أَطَقنَthey had the strength for نُهوضاrising
So I was like a nesting bird that freely gave her nest
To her chicks, until they had the strength to take flight.
