كَأَن لَم تَقُم أَظعانُ هِندٍ بِمُلتَوىً

كَأَن لَم تَقُم أَظعانُ هِندٍ بِمُلتَوىً

وَلَم تَرعَ في الحَيِّ الحِلالِ ثَرورُ

وَلَم تَرعَ في الحَيِّ الحِلالِ ثَرورُ

As though Hind’s women in their howdahs had never camped at a bend,

As though the griefs of India had not arisen at Multan's winding ways;

And no milk-rich she-camel had grazed among the encamped tribe.

As though the throngs had never thronged among the lawful and unlawful grazing lands;
