وَأَلأَمَ لُؤماً مِنكِ قَيسَ البَراجِمِ
The peoples have known none more thievish than you,
The people know not that none steals like you
Nor baser in baseness than you, Qays al-Barajim.
And collides with spears more fiercely than Qais of the Barajim
لَقَدindeed أَمِنَfelt safe الأَعداءُthe enemies أَنthat تَفجَعوهُمُyou (plural) bereave them
لَقَد أَمِنَ الأَعداءُ أَن تَفجَعوهُمُ
وَماand not لَيلُthe night جارٍof a neighbor حَلَّsettled فيكُمamong you (plural) بِنائِمِasleep
وَما لَيلُ جارٍ حَلَّ فيكُم بِنائِمِ
Indeed, the enemies feel safe from your bereaving them,
Truly, the enemies feel safe you will not raid them
Yet the night of a neighbor who settles among you is sleepless.
And no neighbor's night settles among you with one sleeping
