تَنعى النُعاةُ أَميرَ المُؤمِنينَ لَنا

تَنعى النُعاةُ أَميرَ المُؤمِنينَ لَنا

يا خَيرَ مَن حَجَّ بَيتَ اللَهِ وَاِعتَمَرا

يا خَيرَ مَن حَجَّ بَيتَ اللَهِ وَاِعتَمَرا

The heralds announce to us the death of the Commander of the Faithful.

The mourners mourn to us the Commander of the Faithful

O best of those who made pilgrimage to God's House and performed the lesser pilgrimage!

O best of those who performed Hajj and `Umrah at God's House

حُمِّلتَ أَمراً عَظيماً فَاِصطَبَرتَ لَهُ

حُمِّلتَ أَمراً عَظيماً فَاِصطَبَرتَ لَهُ

وَقُمتَ فيهِ بِأَمرِ اللَهِ يا عُمَرا

وَقُمتَ فيهِ بِأَمرِ اللَهِ يا عُمَرا

You were charged with a mighty task, and so bore it patiently.

You were burdened with a great responsibility, so you persevered

And carried it out by God's command, O Umar.

فَالشَمسُ كاسِفَةٌ لَيسَت بِطالِعَةٍ

فَالشَمسُ كاسِفَةٌ لَيسَت بِطالِعَةٍ

تَبكي عَلَيكَ نُجومَ اللَيلِ وَالقَمَرا

So the sun is eclipsed and does not rise;
