يَقولُsays ذَوُوthose possessing الحُكومَةِthe authority to judge مِنfrom among قُرَيشٍQuraysh
يَقولُ ذَوُو الحُكومَةِ مِن قُرَيشٍ
أَتَفخَرُdo you boast? بَعدَafter جارِكُمُyour (plural) neighbor المُصابُthe stricken one
أَتَفخَرُ بَعدَ جارِكُمُ المُصابُ
The arbiters among Quraysh say:
The rulers from Quraysh say,
Do you boast after your neighbor's misfortune?
Do you still boast, although your neighbor is struck with calamity?
غَدَرتَyou acted treacherously وَماand did not وَفَيتَyou kept faith وَفاءَthe loyalty of حَزنٍHazn
غَدَرتَ وَما وَفَيتَ وَفاءَ حَزنٍ
فَأَورَثتَso you bequeathed الوَفاءَloyalty بَنيthe sons of جَنابِJanab
فَأَورَثتَ الوَفاءَ بَني جَنابِ
You acted treacherously and did not keep faith as Hazn did;
You betrayed, and did not fulfill the loyalty of sorrow,
so you bequeathed loyalty to the sons of Janab.
So you made loyalty the inheritance of generous sons.
