إِنَّindeed المُهاجِرَal-Muhajir حينَwhen يَبسُطُhe stretches out كَفَّهُhis palm
إِنَّ المُهاجِرَ حينَ يَبسُطُ كَفَّهُ

سَبطُ البَنانِ طَويلُ عَظمِ الساعِدِ
Indeed al-Muhajir, when he opens his hand,
When the emigrant extends his hand,
is supple-fingered, long of forearm.
The offspring of the luxuriant, long of mighty arm,
قَرمٌa noble chief أَغَرُّradiant إِذاwhen الجُدودُfortunes تَواضَعَتdeclined

سامى مِنَ البَزَرى بِجَدٍّ صاعِدِ
A radiant chief: when fortunes decline,
A leader if the notables show humility,
he rises above adversity with an ascending fortune.
Exalted above the seed with ancestral nobility ascending,

O son of branches nourished by rich soil,
O son of branches nourished by the goodness of soil,
and son of horsemen and the commanding chief,
And son of horsemen and captain and guide,

لا تَعدَمُنَّ ذِيادَهُ مِن ذائِدِ
a protector who defends the inviolable and the guarded lands—
Zealous in warding off from sanctities and preserves,
may you never lack his protection as a defender.
May you never lack support against any transgressor,

You have indeed judged, and your judgment proved convincing,
You have ruled and your rule was satisfactory,
and you were created an adornment to pulpits and mosques.
Created to adorn platforms and mosques,

And when litigants hastened to his doors,
When disputants crowded your doors,
he did not overlook their absent party in favor of a present opponent.
You did not neglect for a witness their absent adversary,

And the aggressors, when they saw you, grew submissive,
And the aggressive, when they saw you, were humbled,
fearing the onslaught of a wrathful, matted-maned lion.
Fearing the onslaught of a furious warring lion,
أُثنيI praise عَلَيكَyou إِذاwhen نَزَلتَyou settle بِأَرضِهِمin their land

I praise you when you settle in their land,
I praise you when you alight in their land,
and when you depart, with the praise of a grateful neighbor.
And when you depart, with the praise of a praising neighbor,

My Lord gave you from His abundant bounty,
My Lord has given you from His abounding bounty,
until you were content, and the envier's abasement was prolonged.
Until you were pleased and the envy of enviers prolonged,

Your chosen forefathers, possessors of lavish gifts—
Your chosen forebears, intimate with the Divine,
their fire-sticks kindled in a noble man's two hands.
And their spear points glistened in the hands of the glorious,

He left the disobedient humbled under his rule,
Who left the disobedient abased in His religion,
and the aggressors, and every rebellious thief.
And the aggressors, and every unruly rebel,

Discerning in it the religion of guidance,

He proved his valor at Burjama, where death was dreaded,
Who wore out his coat of mail feared for havoc,
in the days of a warrior seeking divine reward for hardship.
In days of ordeal and struggle and combat,

How often you have restored me and favored me with honor,
How often you have shown clemency and honored me
and defended me from a relentless enemy.
And warded off from me many a warring adversary,

Had they been able, but for the trials you inflicted on them,
Were they able with other than what you endured them,
you would have been made to drink the venom of speckled serpents and black snakes.
You would have had to drink poison of serpents and dragons,

evening grows chill with the cold late afternoon.
The evening grows cold from the biting north wind,
