إِنّيindeed I لَوَصّالٌsurely devoted to keeping ties بِغَيرِwithout شَناءَةٍhatred
وَإِنّيand indeed I لَباقيtoward one retaining الحِقدِrancor مُستَحوِذٌresolute صُرميmy severance of ties
I am indeed devoted to keeping ties, without hatred.
I am one who reaches out without ulterior motive
And toward one whose rancor endures, I am resolute in severing ties.
Yet I still harbor resentment and keep it suppressed within
وَمُحتَمِلٌand one harboring ضِغناًa grudge عَلَيَّagainst me وَلَمand did not يَكُنbe
لِيَبلُغَto match جَهليmy rashness إِنif جَهِلتُI acted rashly وَلاnor حِلميmy forbearance
And one harboring a grudge against me could never
Bearing spite aimed against me, though it could not
Match my rashness, if I act rashly, nor my forbearance.
Lead to ignorance in me, if I were ignorant, or violate my integrity
وَيَأبىand refuses غُواةُthe wayward الناسِthe people إِلّاexcept تَوافُداًflocking together
عَلَيَّagainst me وَيَأبىand refuses أَنto يَرِقَّgrow soft لَهُمfor them عَظميmy bones
And the wayward among men insist on flocking
Yet the insolence of people insists on directing itself
Against me; yet my bones refuse to soften for them.
Towards me, and refuses to soften towards them, my honor
وَماand not زِلتَyou have ceased ياO خِنزيرَswine تَغلِبَTaghlib جاحِراًhiding in a burrow
بِمَنزِلَةٍin a place يُحمىprotection is given عَلَيكَon your behalf وَلاand not تَحميyou protect
And you have always been, O swine of Taghlib, hiding in a burrow,
And you, o boar, continue to defeat a cunning one
In a place where you are protected, but give no protection.
With a status protected from you, which you do not protect
وَإِنَّكَand indeed you لَوif تَرميyou shoot at تَميماًTamim لَفَلَّلَتwould surely blunt
نِصالَarrowheads مَراميكَyour arrows الجِبالُthe mountains الَّتيthat تَرميyou shoot at
And were you to shoot at Tamim, blunted would be
And verily if you cast a talisman, you would
Your arrowheads by the mountains you shoot at.
Unleash the arrows of your castings, o mountains which you cast upon
وَإِنّيand indeed I لَمُهدٍsurely presenting لِلأُخَيطِلِto al-Ukhaytil صَكَّةًa blow
تَدُقُّcrushes حِيالَlevel with الناظِرينِthe two eyes مِنَof الخَطمِthe snout
And I shall indeed present al-Ukhaytil with a blow
And I remain firm as an anvil for the skillful smithy
That crushes his snout at the level of his eyes.
That pounds coils in sight of the onlookers, from the nose
كَذَبتَyou lied لَقَدindeed قُدناwe led الخَميسَthe army وَناقَلَتand sped

You lie! We have indeed led the army, and the horses sped
You have lied! Indeed we led the expedition on Thursday
With us, plunging into the army and the dark masses.
And the horses conveyed us back and forth on Thursday and in valor
