Hilal rode hard through the night at al-Khadarim,
and sought no refuge from the evils of night visitors.

Then Sufyan attacked him at dawn amid a star-bright host,
and unsheathed bright swords whose flashes did not lie.

And Sufyan ever plunges into the heat of battle,
pressing in whenever the pavilion's gate inspires dread.
