Indeed, Zinbāʿ al-Asaydī and his brothers—

The baseness of grandmothers and grandfathers has disgraced them.

Those who revile me, though I have not violated their honor—

Such are the wonders, O two sons of Umm Qarrād!

O loudest of people when they have eaten their fill,

And, by repute, the meanest of people over provisions.

Sons of Jafāsāʾ, I have found for you neither

The watercourse’s bed nor the valley’s spacious heart.

Were you anything but a trusted man by whom I was taken in,

Or an envier? Then may God abase those who envy me!
