مَتىwhenever تَغمِزyou squeeze ذِراعَthe arm of مُجاشِعِيٍّa Mujashi‘i
تَجِدyou find لَحماًflesh وَلَيسَand it is not عَلىupon عِظامِbones
Whenever you squeeze a Mujashi‘i's arm,
When you pinch an emaciated one's arm
you find flesh with no bones beneath it.
You find flesh, not just skin and bone.
فَماfor never صَدَقَfaced steadfastly اللِقاءَbattle مُجاشِعِيٌّa Mujashi‘i
وَماand never جَمَعَbrought together القَناةَthe spear مَعَwith اللِجامِthe bridle
For no Mujashi‘i has ever stood firm in battle,
That emaciated one did not speak true-
nor brought spear and bridle together.
He did not restrain his gullet with a halter.
تُوَلّونَyou turn الظُهورَyour backs إِذاwhen لُقيتُمyou are confronted
وَتُدنونَand you bring near الصُدورَyour chests مِنَto الطَعامِthe food
You turn your backs when confronted,
You turn your backs when you meet me,
and bring your chests close to food.
Yet thrust your chests at food.
