وَباكِيَةٍand many a weeping woman مِنbecause of نَأيِthe remoteness of قَيسٍQays وَقَدand already نَأَتhas gone far away
بِقَيسٍwith Qays نَوىdistance بَينٍof separation طَويلٍlong بِعادُهاits remoteness
And a woman weeps at Qays’s remoteness: far has he been borne,
And many a woman weeps at Qays's absence, now that
Qays, by a long sundering, vast in its distance.
a parting whose distance is long has borne Qays away.
أَظُنُّI think اِنهِلالَthe flowing of الدَمعِthe tears لَيسَis not بِمُنتَهٍat an end
عَنِfrom العَينِthe eye حَتّىuntil يَضمَحِلَّfades away سَوادُهاits blackness
I think the outpouring of tears will never come to an end,
I think the flow of tears will not cease
flowing from the eye until its very blackness fades away.
from the eye until its blackness fades away.
لَحُقَّit is surely fitting لِقَيسٍfor Qays أَنthat يُباحَbe opened لَهُto him الحِمىthe protected pasture
وَأَنand that تُعقَرَbe slaughtered الوَجناءُthe sturdy she-camel إِنif خَفَّruns low زادُهاher provisions
Surely Qays has the right to have the protected pasture opened to him,
Surely Qays deserves to have the protected pasture opened to him,
and to have the sturdy she-camel slaughtered if her provisions run low.
and the sturdy she-camel slaughtered if her provisions run low.
