Why does Banu al-Dalanta's turn at the water linger?

And it is as though our water-seeker were seen in Turkham.

The he-goats of Banu Tuhayya turned back after

they had been fully watered, while al-A'lam's milch camels had not taken their first drink.

They departed, driven away from watering, and so by morning

at al-Tha'yatayn their moaning was like a gathering of mourners.

If someone like you from Riyah settled among us

as a neighbor, his protection would lie within a sanctuary.

No rebuff was ever found among Riyah

in granting protection, nor any narrowness of welcome.

Those who strip the mighty of their battle gear,

while the horses prance in dust and in blood.

And the horses tell of Riyah that they

are splendid horsemen amid the dark dust.
