ʿArīn is of ʿUraynah, not one of us.

To ʿUraynah I declare myself free of ʿArīn.

A petty little tribe where baseness has encamped,

So baseness will not leave them even for a while.

We recognized Jaʿfar and the sons of ʿUbayd,

    And rejected the other hangers-on.

Do you threaten me from behind the sons of Riyāḥ?

You lie! Your two hands will surely fall short of me.

So fine is the delegation—the delegation of the sons of Riyāḥ—

And fine are the horsemen when the alarm is real.

Must it be forever encamping and departing?

Will it not spare me, and will it not shield me?

And what do the poets seek from me,

When I have already crossed the threshold of forty?
