أَقولُI say لِأَصحابيto my companions اِربَعواease up مِنwith respect to مَطِيِّكُمyour mounts
فَيَومٌfor a day لَناfor us بِالقَريَتَينِat al-Qaryatayn ظَليلُshaded
I say to my companions: ease up on your mounts,
I say to my friends, dismount from your riding beasts
For a day of shade is ours at al-Qaryatayn.
For we have a shady day in the two villages
أُحِبُّI love مِنَamong الفِتيانِthe young men مِثلَthe likes of مُحَرِّقٍMuharriq
وَشَيبانَand Shayban إِنَّindeed الكامِلينَthe accomplished men قَليلُfew
Among young men, I love the likes of Muharriq
I love youths like Muharraq
And Shayban; indeed, men of excellence are few.
And white-haired men, for the perfect ones are few
فَإِنfor if يَشهَداthey both attend يَومَthe day of الحَفيظَةِzeal to defend honor يَطعُناthey both thrust their spears
وَإِنand if يَكُthere is سُؤلٌa request فَالعَطاءُthen the giving جَزيلُlavish
For if they both attend a day of battle, they thrust their spears;
If they witness the day of Al-Hafizah they will thrust
And if there is a request, then the giving is lavish.
And if asked they will give plenty
