    Come, greet the dwellings, though they have been effaced,

    And they have reminded you of your former days at al-Khamil.

    And how many campsites you had at al-Mujaymir,

    And how many timeworn ruins at al-Azzaf!

    فَما لَكَ لا تُفيقُ عَنِ الطُلولِ

    And the ruins are empty of Layla's people;

    So why do you not rouse yourself from thoughts of the ruins?

    And though the reproachers say, 'He has been grieved

    By the tribe's campsite on the front slope of al-Amil.'

    Indeed, the heart was seared with love on the morning at Rahba,

    By the parting of the familiar folk encamped there, each bound a different way.

    When they depart, you grieve; and if they stay,

    What good is staying in the face of departure?

    وَما لي في سَدوسٍ مِن خَليلِ

    My friends are noble, except for Sadus;

    And I have no close friend among Sadus.

    If you set down your saddle among Sadus,

    Then you have been placed in the station of the abased.

    And Sadus knows well that within it

    Are the beacons of baseness, their path plain to see.

    So Sadus has not given much,

    Nor has Sadus defended even a little.
