أثرى الدخيل بأرض قد شببت بها

أما نصيبك منها فهو حرمان

The stranger enriched himself in a land that I had made prosperous

As for your share of it, it is deprivation.

Yet your share of it is nothing but deprivation

وقدم البعض حتى نال بغيته

And some were advanced until they attained their desire,

And others advanced until they attained their desire

By servility you did not practise, and flattery.

While you showed no deference or flattery
