حَمَلَتshe bore فؤاداًa heart بالنوىby separation مصدوعاshattered
حَمَلَت فؤاداً بالنوى مصدوعا
وحشاًdesolate يذوبmelting صبابةًwith longing وولوعاand ardent love
وحشاً يذوب صبابةً وولوعا
She bore a heart shattered by separation,
She bore a heart laden with purpose, fractured,
Desolate, melting with longing and ardent love.
A beast melting with yearning and ardour,
وَقَفتshe stood علىat قبرٍa grave أجنَّconcealed حبيبهاher beloved
وَقَفت على قبرٍ أجنَّ حبيبها
ودعتand she called فماso did not ألفتshe find هناكthere سميعاone who hears
ودعت فما ألفت هناك سميعا
She stood at a grave that concealed her beloved,
She stood at the grave where her beloved lies,
And called, but found no one there to hear.
And called but found no hearer standing nigh.
