قدindeed حنقتمyou have become enraged وارينstriking sparks ورىthe sparking of الزنادthe fire-strikers
قد حنقتم وارين ورى الزناد
O believers, why do I see you
O believers, why do I see you
So enraged, striking sparks like fire-strikers?
So angry, with frowning faces like flint
قدindeed رأيتمyou have held رأياًan opinion رأيتI have held سواهاanother than it
قد رأيتم رأياً رأيت سواها
فكأناso it is as though we كناwe were منamong الأضدادthe adversaries
فكأنا كنا من الأضداد
You have held an opinion; I have held another,
You have an opinion, I have another
So it is as though we were adversaries.
As if we were complete opposites
اختلفناwe have differed كلevery اختلافdifference فماso not أنthat
اختلفنا كل اختلاف فما أن
يتساوىare equal اعتقادكمyour belief واعتقاديand my belief
يتساوى اعتقادكم واعتقادي
We have differed utterly, and in no way
We differed in every way, so what if
Do your belief and mine coincide.
Your beliefs and mine do not align
أيهاO القومthe people إنindeed علميmy knowledge بماof what ارتبتمyou have doubted
أيها القوم إن علمي بما ارتبتم
بهabout it فيin الرسوخfirm rootedness كالأطوادlike the towering mountains
به في الرسوخ كالأطواد
O people, indeed, my knowledge of what you doubt
O people, my knowledge of what you advocate
Is as firmly rooted as towering mountains.
Is as firm as pegs driven into the ground
أيwhat شيءthing يضركمharms you منfrom حيادىmy neutrality
أي شيء يضركم من حيادى
فاتركونيso leave me فيماin what أرىI see وحياديand my neutrality
فاتركوني فيما أرى وحيادي
What harm does my neutrality do you?
What harm is there in my neutrality?
So leave me to my views and my neutrality.
Leave me to my own views and neutral stance
إنماonly ترتقيadvance الشعوبthe peoples بعلمthrough knowledge
إنما ترتقي الشعوب بعلم
تقتنيهthey acquire it بالدرسthrough study لاnot باضطرادthrough continuity
تقتنيه بالدرس لا باضطراد
Peoples advance only through knowledge
Nations only progress with knowledge
They acquire through study, not through mere continuity.
Gained through study, not blind adherence
أيهاO العلمknowledge ياO منايmy aspiration فداءa sacrifice
أيها العلم يا مناي فداء
لكfor you ماليmy wealth منof طارفnewly acquired wealth وتلادand inherited wealth
لك مالي من طارف وتلاد
O knowledge, O my heart's desire, I offer as a sacrifice
O science, my life is yours
To you all my wealth, newly acquired and inherited.
You are all I own, my only solace
