To Al-Rafi'i, the guiding light,
in the skies of the university of sciences,
In the atmosphere of the university.
بالعبقريةto genius بالهدىto guidance
بالعبقرية بالهدى
بممثليto the representatives of مصرEgypt الرؤمtender-hearted
بممثلي مصر الرؤم
to genius, to guidance,
With genius, with guidance,
to the representatives of tender-hearted Egypt,
With Egypt's sincere representatives,
بالنورto the light يهديguides المشرقينthe two Easts
بالنور يهدي المشرقين

The days have brought them together in

Baghdad, like a finely strung necklace.
Baghdad like a sturdy necklace.
بلقائهمthrough meeting them فرجتwere dispelled ماwhatever
بلقائهم فرجت ما
فيin غورthe depths of نفسيmy soul منof همومcares
في غور نفسي من هموم
Meeting them dispelled whatever
By meeting them my heart was relieved
cares lay in the depths of my soul.
Of its worries.
انيindeed I علىdespite كبريmy old age اخفlighter; quicker
اني على كبري اخف
الىto اللقاءthe meeting منthan النسيمthe breeze
الى اللقاء من النسيم
Despite my age, I am lighter of step
Despite my old age, I now lightly
toward the meeting than the breeze.
