وللناس فيما قد علمت مآرب

قد اختلفت فيهم كما اختلف الخلق

قد اختلفت فيهم كما اختلف الخلق

And people, as I have learned, have many aims;

These differ among them, just as humankind itself differs.

Which differ among them, just as creation differs.

فمن طالب دنيا وذاك هو الحجى

فمن طالب دنيا وذاك هو الحجى

ومن طالب دينا وذاك هو الحق

ومن طالب دينا وذاك هو الحق

Some seek this world—and that is avarice;

Some seek worldly life, and that is wisdom;

And some seek faith—and that is the truth.

And some seek religion, and that is truth.
