كَأَنَّas though المُحِبَّthe lover قَصيرُshort الجُفونِthe eyelids
كَأَنَّ المُحِبَّ قَصيرُ الجُفونِ
لِطولِbecause of the length of اللَياليthe nights وَلَمand have not تَقصُرِgrown short
لِطولِ اللَيالي وَلَم تَقصُرِ
It is as though the lover’s eyelids were short,
It is as though the lover has little sleep
because the nights are long—though his eyelids have not grown short.
For the nights are long and do not shorten
