حَلَفتُI swore لَهاto her بِالبُدنِby the sacrificial camels تَدمىbleed نُحورُهاtheir throats
لَقَدindeed شَقِيَتhas suffered نَفسيmy soul بِكُمbecause of you (plural) وَعُنيتُand I have been tormented
I swore to her by the sacrificial camels whose throats bleed:
I swore to her by the bodies with bleeding necks,
Indeed, my soul has suffered because of you, and I have been tormented.
Indeed my soul has suffered because of you and I became weary.
حَلَفتُI swore يَميناًan oath ياO بُثَينَةُButhayna صادِقاًtruthfully
فَإِنso if كُنتُI was فيهاin it كاذِباًlying فَعَميتُthen may I go blind
I swore an oath, O Buthayna, truthfully;
I swore an oath sincerely, O Buthaina,
so if I have lied in it, may I go blind.
So if I were lying in it, then I became blind.
إِذاif كانَwas جِلدٌskin غَيرُother than جِلدِكِyour skin مَسَّنيtouched me
وَباشَرَنيand touched me directly دونَbeneath الشِعارِthe undergarment شَريتُI would break out in hives
If any skin other than yours were to touch me
If any skin other than yours touched me
and touch me directly beneath my undergarment, I would break out in hives.
And caressed me below the waist, I became senile.
وَلَوand even if أَنَّthat داعٍa caller مِنكِfrom you يَدعوcalls to جِنازَتيmy bier
وَكُنتُwhile I was عَلىon أَيديthe hands of الرِجالِthe men حَيِيتُI would come back to life
And even if a caller from you were to call out to my bier,
And if a caller from you called out my funeral,
while I lay borne on men's hands, I would come back to life.
And I was in the hands of men, I would come back to life.
