مَنَعَdenied النَومَsleep شِدَّةَthe intensity of الإِشتِياقِlonging
وَاِدِّكارُand remembrance of الحَبيبِthe beloved بَعدَafter الفِراقِparting
I am kept from sleep by the intensity of longing
and remembrance of the beloved after parting.
لَيتَwould that شِعريmy knowledge إِذاwhen بُثَينَةُButhayna بانَتshe departed
هَلَّناshall we have? بَعدَafter بَينِهاher departure مِنany تَلاقِreunion
Would that I knew, when Buthayna departs,
whether we shall meet again after her departure.
وَلَقَدand indeed قُلتُI said يَومَthe day نادىcalled out المُناديthe caller
مُستَحِثّاًurging haste بِرِحلَةٍfor departure وَاِنطِلاقِand setting forth
And indeed I said, the day the caller called out,
urging haste to depart and set forth:
لَيتَwould that ليfor me اليَومَtoday ياO بُثَينَةُButhayna مِنكُمfrom you (plural)
مَجلِساًa meeting لِلوَداعِfor farewell قَبلَbefore الفِراقِparting
Would that today, O Buthayna, I might have with you
a farewell meeting before parting!
حَيثُwhere ماever كُنتُمُyou may be (plural) وَكُنتُand I may be فَإِنّيfor indeed I
غَيرُnot ناسٍforgetful لِلعَهدِof the pledge وَالميثاقِand the covenant
Wherever you may be, and wherever I may be, I
shall not forget the pledge and the covenant.
