And oh, how lovely she is as tears wash away her kohl,

And as her fingertips scatter the tears from her,

That evening when she said in reproach, 'You have killed me,'

Yet with what she said there, she sought to kill me.

So I said to her, 'Be generous,' and she said in reply,

'Is this earnest on your part, or are you jesting?'

Indeed, the night, short for us with you, has begun

To grow long for me because of love's terrors.
