وَإِنّيand indeed I لَأَرضىam surely content مِنfrom بُثَينَةَButhayna بِالَّذيwith that which
وَإِنّي لَأَرضى مِن بُثَينَةَ بِالَّذي

لَوَ اَبصَرَهُ الواشي لَقَرَّت بَلابِلُه
And indeed I am content with what I receive from Buthayna—
I am pleased with Buthaina for that which
were the talebearer to see it, his anxieties would be stilled:
If the slanderer saw it, his nightingales would stop singing.
بِلاwith “no” وَبِأَلّاand with “that … not” أَستَطيعَI can وَبِالمُنىand with wishes
بِلا وَبِأَلّا أَستَطيعَ وَبِالمُنى
وَبِالوَعدِand with the promise حَتّىuntil يَسأَمَgrows weary of الوَعدَthe promise آمِلُهthe one hoping for it
وَبِالوَعدِ حَتّى يَسأَمَ الوَعدَ آمِلُه
with “no,” with “I cannot,” and with wishes,
With neither promise nor appointment I can manage,
and with a promise, until the one hoping for it tires of the promise,
And with hope, until the one who hopes tires of the promise.

and with a fleeting glance, and with a year slipping away—
With the hasty glance and the tryst whose
its last days and its first, without our meeting.
Ending we do not meet, and the beginning.
