يَطولُ اليَومُ إِن شَحَطَت نَواها

يَطولُ اليَومُ إِن شَحَطَت نَواها

وَحَولٌ نَلتَقي فيهِ قَصيرُ

وَحَولٌ نَلتَقي فيهِ قَصيرُ

The day grows long when her dwelling lies far away,

The day grows long if she is far away.

while a year in which we meet is brief.

And a year in which we meet is short.

وَقالوا لا يَضيرُكَ نَأيُ شَهرٍ

وَقالوا لا يَضيرُكَ نَأيُ شَهرٍ

فَقُلتُ لِصاحِبَيَّ فَمَن يَضيرُ

فَقُلتُ لِصاحِبَيَّ فَمَن يَضيرُ

They said, “A month’s separation will do you no harm.”

And they said, “A month’s separation will not harm you.”

I said to my two companions, “Then whom does it harm?”

So I said to my two companions, “Then whom does it harm?”
