عَجِلَ الفِراقُ وَلَيتَهُ لَم يَعجَلِ

وَجَرَت بَوادِرُ دَمعِكَ المُتَهَلِّلِ

Parting came in haste—if only it had not come so soon.

Parting hastened—would that it had not hastened.

And the first wellings of your overflowing tears flowed,

And the first drops of your streaming tears flowed

طَرَباً وَشاقَكَ ما لَقيتَ وَلَم تَخَف

طَرَباً وَشاقَكَ ما لَقيتَ وَلَم تَخَف

بَينَ الحَبيبِ غَداةَ بُرقَةِ مِجوَلِ

بَينَ الحَبيبِ غَداةَ بُرقَةِ مِجوَلِ

in passionate agitation; what you endured stirred your yearning, and you did not expect

In yearning; what you encountered stirred your longing, yet you did not fear

the beloved’s departure that morning at Burqat Mijwal.

وَعَرَفتَ أَنَّكَ حينَ رُحتَ وَلَم يَكُن

بَعدُ اليَقينُ وَلَيسَ ذاكَ بِمُشكِلِ

بَعدُ اليَقينُ وَلَيسَ ذاكَ بِمُشكِلِ

And you knew, as you departed—though there was not

And you knew that, when you departed—though there was not

yet certainty, nor was that hard to see—

Yet certainty, and that is no mystery—

لَن تَستَطيعَ إِلى بُثَينَةَ رَجعَةً

لَن تَستَطيعَ إِلى بُثَينَةَ رَجعَةً

بَعدَ التَفَرُّقِ دونَ عامٍ مُقبِلِ
